Christy Theodore is a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate and National Certified Counselor. She works with adults, adolescents, families, and couples. In addition to mood disorders such as anxiety and depression, Christy specializes in sexual issues including trauma and abuse, sexually transmitted diseases, and sexual dysfunctions. Christy identifies as a Christian. She can incorporate faith into counseling when a client requests this approach to treatment. She works with clients from a variety of belief systems and only includes client’s spiritual or religious beliefs when requested and appropriate.
In the counseling process, Christy pulls from techniques including client-centered, DBT, CBT, and somatic/body-based therapies. She also relies heavily on a systemic framework, which considers how one’s family system has impacted them. Christy believes that counseling must be a safe, collaborative and compassionate space that is tailored to each client’s individual needs. She is honored to have the opportunity to walk alongside her clients in their healing journeys.
Christy received her Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Richmont Graduate University in Atlanta, Georgia where she also earned a graduate certificate in sex therapy. She has experience working at a large psychiatric hospital in metro Atlanta, as well as in the private practice setting.
Christy has received additional training in working with trauma and the body, sex addiction, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), as well as Levels 1 and 2 training in Gottman Method for Couples Therapy. She has also completed specialized training in Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders and Perinatal Grief and Loss. As an EMDR trained therapist, Christy helps clients process trauma including sexual assault and birth trauma.
